From March 3-8 2011, women from rural and urban poor communities in over 20 countries came together in New York to exchange their challenges, successes and strategies in the process of gaining a seat at the table in decision making processes in their communities and countries. As a part of the Global Summit on Grassroots Leadership and Governance organized by the Huairou Commission, they engaged in direct dialogues with representatives of UN organizations, academia and the development sector, speaking as experts in the needs of their communities and those of grassroots women across their countries and regions, including Latin America, Africa, Asia Pacific and Europe.
